Despite the immensity of the Sahara, Algeria offers a great variety of climate. Rainfall varies from an average of 70 centimeters in the coastal areas to 10 centimeters or less in the mid South. It rerely rains in the far South. The Djurdjura and Aures mountain rangers offers cool relief from the summer heat and often get snow in the winter. The plains along the coast have a Mediterranean climate with cool rainy winters and long warm pleasantly warm from December to early March. Winter temperatures expect in the mountains seldom drop below 0 degrees centigrade (32 degrees Fahrenheit) at night and days are comfortably cool. In the summer, temperatures can run as high as 35 degrees centigrade (95 degrees Fahrenheit). The summer heat is tempered and has a dry air with sea breezes that make summer a pleasant season on the coast.
